There is a new way for Twitter users to monetize their account. If you have more then 200 followers on Twitter you can use a service called Sponsored Tweets to make money. Once you sign up for you free account you will be added to the Sponsored Tweets listing. When an advertiser wants to reach your followers you send out a Tweet written by the advertiser, or some advertisers let you write the ad to fit your followers tastes. When an advertiser wants to work with you a direct message in Twitter appears letting you know about the offer. You also have the option of not sending out the tweet if you feel it does not match your standards. The best part is you can make some serious money. The top bloggers are getting paid hundreds of dollars for just one tweet. The more followers you gain on Twitter the better the payouts. You can also use Sponsored Tweets to advertise. There are many celebrity Twitter users that reach large number of followers and for some advertisers these numbers are well beyond what they would reach with traditional advertising. The Sponsored Tweet service has been approved by Twitter and you will not have your account blocked or banned for using the service. The service also makes sure your followers know that you are sending a sponsored tweet by adding #ad or something similar in the tweet. This might turn into a revenue model for Twitter in the future or at least give the company ideas on how to make money with Twitter as they are still without a revenue model. Over all I would recommend anyone who wants to make extra money from their Twitter account to sign up for Sponsored Tweets and try running a few ad’s your audience will not mind if you do it every few days and send targeted messages.
