Anyone with a Word Press blog knows how frustrating it can be with all the spam comments. Today I installed Disqus comment management service. This is a free plug in for Word Press that can manage your comments. With many features and the ability to filter spam comments. It’s nice to not have to worry about comments and have a free service to handle everything. The plug in was very easy to install and to get it working properly. One other great thing is the ability to share the commnet with a users Twitter or Facebook account.

The last few weeks have been crazy with WordPress updates. The first one I did almost killed my blog. Since then I have made sure to turn plug-ins off. This seems to help and the upgrades have been working properly.

Every time I do an update I feel like the blog is going to get corrupted. If you are not backing up your database you should before any WordPress update. It’s better to be safe then sorry. Let’s hope this is the end of updates for awhile.

It was a tense few moments today as I tired to upgrade to WordPress 2.8 and was horrified to not being able to get back to my admin. The upgrade seemed to have worked, and then tragedy struck. There was a fatal error message. I thought I had lost everything on this blog. What a nightmare to have to relocate everything from Google cache pages or to re-write the whole site. If anything I learned today to back up your WordPress database and to make sure you check the WordPress site for any known issues. Very happy to have the site back up and avoid all the hassles of having to re-do this site.

As an affiliate marketer you tend to set up sites for all sorts of offers. Then some do not turn out to be that hot and you forget about the site. Once in awhile one of these sites bring in a sale, but not much to the bills. This week I will go through some of the sites that have not performed and see if I can make any changes that might increase sales. There are some sites that I can change completely and get a new offer that might be better then what is there now. There will be some sites that when they come up for renewal I will not renew. Just want to clean things up a bit and squeeze some extra sales from some of this sites.

It started a few weeks ago with a search for a new theme. The previous them on Vendingmatic was practical, but felt a little tight. The posts were also a little difficult to read in the color that the theme had set. Looking at this new them it feels clean with no clutter and it makes reading better. Looking at adding a few more features, but for now hope you will find this a better theme and continue to read this blog.

The first week of the year is always slow. It gave me a chance to get caught up on the ugly side of online marketing. Since I did not have much income to worry about last week, I updated many of my sites. There are also some new sites I want to have up in time for the various holidays coming up through out the year. The second week of January you start to see more traffic and conversion rates start to go up. Let’s hope that traffic picks up and people get back into their spending mode.

The one laptop per child project is a very important world wide effort, to provide children in poor countries with a small laptop.  It is one project that can make a difference in the education of these children. As a person who uses computers and technology to make a living online and an avid computer user I full want to support this project. Shortly I will be buying a laptop to support the effort. A few days ago I watched a Canadian television show called market place. They did a report on how stores add expensive cables to the purchase of a new HDTV. The cable are called HDMI and are offered by the sales person, who in most cases leads you to believe that your new TV will not work well without cables that cost $200.00 or more. The most famous brand would be the Monster Cables. The questions is do you need these cables? The CBC network that aired the show had the expensive cables tested at their head office against a cable that cost $12.00 online. I know that there is room for debate, but if the CBC which broadcasts in HD and has so many years of television experience test a cable I do have faith in them. The result was that the expensive cables performed exactly the same as the $12.00 no name brand cable bought online.

If you are in the market for a HDTV stay away from the expensive cables you do not need to spend the extra money, unless you are rich and want to brag that you spent $200 on a cable. The same is true with USB printer cables (which I bought for $1.00 at the dollar store) if bought with a new printer, stores charge about $25.00 for the cable. I have not had any problems with my dollar store USB cable in 3 years since I go the printer. I also have bought a S-Video cable from the dollar store and it has worked will with my DVD player and TV. If you are going to buy cables I recommend that you do some research before you buy. Also do not believe the sales person the cables are just an extra sale for them that provides some extra commission.

Today on CNET.com they also had the same idea. Do not fall for the scam you do not need a $200.00 Monster Cable to make your new HDTV set up work properly.
