About a month ago I Twittered about the Reddit mascot. At the time I thought it was a robot and thought it was a really cool mascot or logo. As a regular user of Reddit I highly recommend their web site. The point of this post is that the Internet is a great way to share information, but also to make connections. It turns out that Alexis Ohanian the co-founder of Reddit found my original Twitter post and set me straight that the mascot was not a robot it’s an alien. Well not only did Alexis correct my view of their mascot, but he also went ahead and sent me a USB stick in the shape of the alien.
This has to be the coolest USB stick I own. The stick is 4GB and the top head part comes off as a cap. Since I tend to lose my USB sticks it’s nice to have a slightly larger stick that I can throw in my laptop bag and is easy to find. Wait there’s more everyone who has seen this USB stick keeps asking me where I got it. It’s available in the Reddit Store for $25 for this unique styled USB stick. Again I would like to thank Alexis for the surprise FedEx delivery and not only am I a lifetime user of Reddit I will also treasure this USB stick.

The new Apple iPad was not what many expected. As a multi-media device it does a great job and I do think there is a market for the iPad. There are many people who do not need a home computer and find anything PC to complicated. The older non-tech user might find this a great device. It allows access to the Internet and email with a very simple interface. The device also makes a decent eBook reader. These are some features that for people who do not need a powerful computer will want to take a look at iPad. As for the tech savvy consumer it’s a nice device and has certain cool factor. Will it replace the netbook noway. The netbook with a full keyboard and long list of productivity software can not be replaced by the iPad. With time more applications might be made available and the software issue will not be a problem. At this point in the products life cycle I think the iPad is a cool toy and will have core set of users. Is it worth the price tag at $499 it’s not a bad price for an Internet device that is going to get looks at Starbucks. The iPad is a step in a new direction, but it’s not for me at this time. -

As a Canadian there are few choices for eBook readers. It was nice to find the Mybebook eBook reader as it is a great choice for those who can not afford a Sony or Amazon eBook reader. The Mybebook supports many formats and you can buy many ebooks online that will work with the device. When you buy a Mybebook you also get a large selection of free titles.
The screen is e-ink and looks sharp and crisp. If you want an alternative to the other eBook readers on the market then this is a great choice. As many readers on this site know I love eBooks and am excited at the development of this new format for reading books.
Supported file formats including the popular PDF, ePub, MS Word (.doc), Mobipocket** and other text formats.
If you want an eBook reader this is a great choice and at an amazing price.
This eBook reader comes in two screen sizes.

As many of my Twitter followers know I love eBooks. Since I bought my Sony Reader last year the device has become such an important part of my day. As an avid reader I spend a good few hours a day with my Sony Reader. Now I know the price might be a little high for a Sony Reader or the Amazon Kindle. This is where the Aluratek Libre comes in. This unit is sold at Costco in Canada and through many online stores. The price in Canada is $169 which over all is a great price. The Aluratek does not use e-ink like the other readers. This unit uses an LCD display that does a very good job at making the page look like a real book page. As a Sony Reader user I would say the Sony screen is much better and almost seems like you are reading a real book. The Aluratrek LCD display is not as good.
You can also play mp3’s with the unit and look at pictures. As for eBook this unit does not have it’s own store and titles have to be purchased from eBook stores that support the formats of the eBook reader. When I checked online the prices of eBooks are more expensive from the stores recommended by the manufacturer. You will not get the same amount of eBooks as available with Sony or Amazon. You can read PDF’s and many common eBook formats, but buying digital rights copies of books is limited to a few trusted sites.
My overall impression of the Aluratek eBook Reader is that at this price it makes a nice starter eBook reader. If you can get free PDF eBooks online then this unit is going to make it easy to travel with your eBooks and get some reading done. If you like best sellers then buy the Sony Reader or Amazon Kindle. Until an eBook store is built that supports all the different readers, I would recommend staying with the leaders.
At least if you buy a Sony or Amazon eBook reader you know you will find many titles to buy.
Nice eBook reader, but without it’s own market place you are taking a chance at what you will be able to read on this unit.

When I was a kid I wanted a case like the spies used in the movies. You know the metal case that the secret documents would be in. Well I did a search online and found Vanguard Luxor Series Deluxe Aluminum Case. Just like the type of case you would see in a James Bond movie. At around $70 you can own your very own spy case. Not sure what I would put in my spy case. It has room to fit a 17″ laptop and your lunch. This would be a cool case to show up to work with.
Need to work on some secret document to place in the Vanguard Spy Case.
You can find the Vanguard Case here!

Went out Christmas shopping and was not sure what to get for a few people on my list. Started thinking what would be an item everyone enjoys and the Tassimo Coffee Maker came to mind. This is one of the most popular gifts this season and the store clerk said they keep selling out. The nice thing about the Tassimo is that it really does do a great job at making coffee house style beverages at home. The system is very easy to use and you do not need an messy filters or to clean it out. The amount of new beverages coming out for the Tassimo keep growing. Almost any type of hot beverage can be made with Tassimo. Hope the people on my list enjoy the Tassimo and if you need a great coffee maker for your home or office I think you should pick one up. -
December 18th, 2009Blogging, Cool StuffOnce in awhile I like to try a new theme on this blog. Every time I change the theme there is always some sort of problem. Then I end up going back to the old theme. Going to play around with this theme for a few days and see if it works out for what I want it to do. Let me know what you think. Should I keep this theme?

September 7th, 2009Advertising, Cool Stuff, Random Stuff, VideosA few days ago I was watching Wall-e and the song Put On Your Sunday Clothes from the musical Hello Dolly just caught my attention. There was something about this song that made me want to find out what it was. This got me thinking how many other people might have felt the same emotion towards this song. With a quick search I found that this song from 1969 was being rediscovered by a new generation. When the makers of Wall-e add this song to the soundtrack did they know that they would get a new generation to listen to this song and want to watch Hello Dolly, was this a marketing effort. When children watch movies their parent or an older person usually watch the movie at the same time. What a great way to market content to an audience who was expecting to just watch a kids movie, and now want to go out and rent the original movie that the song was featured in. When I went through the comments on YouTube it seems many people found the song from watching Wall-e. It’s funny how a movie from 1969 is now on my list of movies to watch.
Enjoy! It’s a make you feel good song.
