We have all seen pages with nothing but Google Adsense. You might think that these sites do not make much money or that they do not show up in the search engines. Well try searching for just about anything and one of these pages will show up. You get a page with very little information on the topic you searched for, but the rest of the pages has plenty of Adsense ad’s and they are all positioned in such away that most users will click thinking that the Adsense unit is part of the content. The trick is to blend Adsense into the content. Try a few searches and see if you can spot this type of site. The publisher of this type of site probably has many more just like the first. With each site getting clicks here and there and adding up to big money. You can play around and create your own site for Adsesne and see what works. Study other sites and get some ideas. It’s been bout a year that I started testing ad spots. The tests were based on a  high traffic blog that I own. What I was looking for was the click  rate. It did not matter if the ad converted into a sale. All I wanted to learn from my test was if people would click on 125 X 125 ad spots. Over the past year I played with different offers. There was even an offer that would have made people a ton of money, but no one clicked. It’s funny how the ad spots were ignored. As a result of my testing I have removed ad spots from most of my blogs and am trying something new.

If you are going to run ad spots on your sites it pays to test. Let an ad run for a few weeks and see if the click rate improves if not replace the ad with another and play with different versions of the ad. Sometimes the first version of the ad spot would not attract clicks then I would replace it with another banner, for the same advertiser and the clicks would go up. If you see results great keep the ad spots. If not then it’s time to figure out other methods to monetize your site.

After just 20 minutes my account balance was at zero. That sums up my first test run with AdOn Network. This network is part ppp and ppv. The company has a few different platforms for advertising. The affiliate marketing industry had some major changes in 2009. These changes forced many to re-think they way they market online. With new FTC rules and Google banning affiliate Adwords accounts it’s become a whole new ball game.

Going forward into 2010 affiliate marketers will have to adapt to these changes. With a major traffic source like Adwords turned off testing new traffic should be a priority. If you have some sites that did well with PPC you might want to try SEO and getting natural search results.

If you can’t advertise on Google at least get your sites to get index and enjoy some free traffic even if it’s just a small drip. Thinking outside the box is going to make many rich in 2010 just as it has in the past. If you test traffic and different offers you might hit the jackpot. You never know what offer or traffic source is going to work. Keep trying new things and split test your offers.

The fact is you might lose a bit of money coming out of the gate, but if you test enough you will find a profitable campaign. It’s not going to be easy to make the same amount of money with all these new rules, but you can comply and keep at it. Way before Google was around people made money online and just because you do not have this traffic source don’t give up.

Keep reading forum posts ask questions and track down new ideas to promote your sites. Its funny how many sources I found since my Adwords account was banned. In an industry that changes as much as affiliate marketing you need to have back up plans.

Once in awhile I like to try a new theme on this blog. Every time I change the theme there is always some sort of problem. Then I end up going back to the old theme.
