With the amount of time I spend online to make money I risk not having a meaningful life. On average to make money online I need to spend about 15 hours a day in front of my computer. There are days that I spend less time on the computer and I go on to do other things. With so much time spent trying to make money there is less time to spend with the family and to enjoy other activities. Don’t get me wrong I love working from home and on the computer. The computer has been part of my life since I was 6 years old and I could not live without some sort of interaction with the computer. What I need to do is take a few hours away from the computer and have some sort of balance. In order to have a meaningful life it is not all about money or work. We need to spend time with our families and enjoy the simple things in life. If you can do both make money and spend time with those you love you are working towards a better more meaningful life.

Those of you who sell on eBay know the difficulty of getting new stuff to sell. If you deal in garage sale finds and other nick nacks then Doba might be a better source. Once you find the products to list on eBay you wait for the order and then input your customers mailing information into Doba and they ship the item out for you. You just want to make sure you deal with items with a large supply, you do not want to get stuck without a product to ship if the supply is low. Once you get the sale you keep the profit and you can pay Doba through Paypal or credit card for the goods shipped. The question I always get from would be online entrepreneurs, is how I start without any money. It is true that it take a bit of money to start pulling in more traffic to your site, but you can start for no cost and scale up as you go. There are many free resources online that can help you get started. If you need web space you can find plenty of services for free. Once you have a web site you need to find ways to monetize the site. You can get a free affiliate marketing account with a company like Market Leverage. This account will allow you to place banners and links on your site that can earn you lot’s of money. Once you figure out what your site is going to be about you add the links that best match your content. When I started selling online I used eBay to sell my own products and just stuff I had around the house, but then I soon ran out of stuff to sell. This is why I like affiliate marketing so much. You do not need to carry any inventory, you just need a web site to promote other companies products or services. The only challenge you will have when you fist get started is the lack of traffic to your site. As a new site added to Google or Bing you might not get the volume of traffic that you need to convert to sales. This is why most pro affiliate marketers use paid advertising like Google Adwords to drive traffic to their affiliate offers. You might want to have at least $100 to start playing with Google Adwords. Once you build your site you will then set up a campaign in Google Adwords, and pick keywords that people searching on Google will find your site with. Once you have a trial of Google Adwords you can figure out what work and what does not. Making money online is tough and you need to keep learning as you go along. The nice thing is that you can start for very little cost and get results very quickly. If you can spend a little more get web site hosting and build your own site with your own domain name. It cost money, but you will be building a brand.

It’s been a few months since I stopped selling on eBay. It was a matter of the fee’s being higher then then the amount of money being made. With the cost of shipping and eBay fee’s I could no longer be at a profit by selling on eBay. When I was at my peak and there was less competition for the items I was selling, the money was pouring in. In the last year many sellers from Asia have started to dry up sales for my niche. Still not sure how they make money, but the Asian sellers are able to sell a product cheap and pay shipping and eBay fee’s and still manage to make money. As my sales on eBay dried up my fee’s were higher then what I was making in profit. It was not easy stop selling on eBay, but I managed to make money online in different ways. It is always better to have your eggs in a few different baskets. You never know when an income source will dry out. Without eBay I had to figure away to get rid of some slow moving stock. The first choice was Craig’s List. In a few days I was able to get rid of a good number of items and still have a profit. All in all I would say that I have lost about $500 a month by not selling on eBay. This amount is based on the period of time that my business had no competition. The lesson learned is that you need to have many sources of income online, if one fails you have a back up.

As an affiliate marketer it is important to network. You need to make contact with people in the industry. This is the only way you are going to learn and get inside knowledge to different aspects of the business. Attending meet up’s and trade shows are of great value. You should always carry business cards with you and do not be shy about handing them out. Even in normal business setting I hand out my cards. This does lead to a lot of people asking what affiliate marketing is and do I make any money. Then I give them a brief low down and their like wow I should be doing this. The more events that you can attend the better for your business. You should try to go to any event that is related to marketing online. Even if it does not sound like something that you are doing, you could end up walking away with some great contacts and information. This year I was not able to get to many events, but I am going to start attending more and looking for local sessions. If you talk to anyone in any business that has great success, you will find that they are great at networking. If you can cultivate relationships and build trust people will help you and lead in the direction you want to take your business. Now get out there and start networking and grow your business and knowledge.

As many web site owners know getting paid from Google can take awhile. If you have Google Adsense on your site you need to get $100 in clicks before you get a payout. It took me about two years to get $100 in clicks. The addition of Adsense on a few of my web sites was just an extra way to monetize, as I already had other ways to make money from the sites in place.  If I had created sites just to make money with Adsense then I would have made a little more effort to maximize the site to ensure more clicks. One thing I did learn is that if you can make sites with keywords with a good payout, you can make a lot of money with Adsense. There are other PPC networks that you can try like Bidvertiser or 7 Search, but you might not get ad’s that are relevant to your niche. With the first payout on the way I would like to try to create more site and use Google Adsense as the only method of making money. Once my payment does arrive I will just toss it back into my Google Adwords account and try to make more money with my affiliate offers.

The Vendingmatic blog is all about making money online, but I also wanted to spice things up with new content. The new direction I am taking this blog is to appeal to more people. We all want to learn how to make money online, but there is room for other topics as well. Since I am a big geek at heart more tech posts will be added. In order to not only grow this blog, but to grow as a person we need to expand our minds. The main focus of the blog will always be making money online.
